Hard Work
An under-strength Dolphins prevailed by 21 points over a much improved and determined Kilburn outfit yesterday at a cold and windy Kilburn Oval.
Despite going into the game as over-whelming favourites the Dolphins were made to work for the win by a Kilburn side who are on the improve. Amongst the best players were Steve Dubrich, Damien ‘Radar’ Raidis and Geordi ‘Hotdogs’ Haklar. Up forward Ben Primus slotted 7.0 for the day whilst Christian ‘Pooch’ Puccini bagged 4.
The B Grade also took home the premiership points, recording an 11 point victory. The old man Matthew Kromwyk was BOG whilst Ryan ‘Knockers’ Konopka booted 4 goals to take his tally to 44 for the year. For those football statisticians amongst us the B Grade has registered the exact same score for two weeks running. What are the odds of making it three weeks running?
Next week sees two important events happening when we return home to host competition pace setter Prince Alfred O.C. Firstly, it is Veterans (Past Players and Officials) Day. For those of you who haven’t made it out to a game this year this is your opportunity to catch up with people you see once a year and remind them how good you were back in the day. Secondly, Anthony ‘Buckets’ Andolfatto will be playing his 175th game for the club, earning him Player Life Membership and making him just the 25th person to achieve this honour. As well as being a top bloke and a snappy dresser, Buckets is also a past President and has served countless years on the Committee. He has over the years given himself unselfishly to the Club and I am certain that he in fact has purple and white blood in his veins. Make sure you get along for the B Grade (12.15pm) to give Buckets the ovation he deserves.
As mentioned we will be hosting Prince Alfred O.C. in the Wine Storage & Logistics Match of the Round. The record books show that the visitors have never won at Dolphin Park and Jars and the boys will be aiming to keep that record intact.
See you at the game.
Go you Dolphins!
